Spring Term 1
Our topic for the first Spring half term was Way Back When! We did lots of work around Grace Darling, finding out about her life and why she is still remembered today. We enjoyed finding out about what life was like for her and her family living in a lighthouse, and we discovered that she saved nine people from a terrible shipwreck.
In English we focussed on the book The Lighouse Keeper's Lunch. We enjoyed finding out about Mr and Mrs Grinling and the adventures they got up to. We enjoyed taking part in role play activities, planning our own meals for Mr Grinling and we wrote some great diary entries.
We designed and built some amazing bridges in our Design and Technology lessons with Mrs Morton. We did some research into existing bridges around the world, before planning and designing our own bridges. We then built these using a range of materials.
As part of a homework project we made our own lighthouses. These all looked amazing and they were put on display in the corridor outside our classroom.
Shelley College
We had a fantastic morning when we visited Shelley College for the Year 1 Mulit-skills event. The children took part in 20 different sporting activities throughout the morning. We had lots of fun trying out new things and working with other Year One children from across the Shelley Pyramid.
Spring 2
Our topic for this half term is Wonderful Weather. We are finding out all about weathern patterns and seasonal changes. We are enjoying looking at extreme weathern patterns, such as hurricanes, flash floods and lightening storms.
In Art we have been creating our own image sof extreme weathers. We have been using a range of media to add texture and layers to our artwork.
In English we have been looking at poems about the weather. We have been writing our own poems about rain, using lots of descriptive language.
World Book Day
We had lots of fun on World Book Day in March. We enjoyed dressing up as our favaourite story book characters and we had a great time doing various reading-related activities throughout the day.
